New York Riptide of National Lacrosse League to Relocate to Ottawa

Ottawa Braces for a New Professional Sports Franchise

The city of Ottawa is poised to welcome a new professional sports team.

According to the National Lacrosse League, Canada’s capital city will see the sport’s triumphant return after an disclosure was made about the relocation of New York’s Riptide team, in preparation for the forthcoming season.

The new squad will be christened the Ottawa Black Bears and will conduct their home games at the Canadian Tire Centre, which also happens to be the home ground of the Ottawa Senators.

NLL Commissioner Brad Frood verified the news this past Wednesday.

The Riptide, having recently faced off against Toronto’s Rock last Friday at Place Bell in Laval, currently holds the seventh position among the 15 NLL teams this season with a score line of 5-5.

The Black Bears will be the sixth Canadian franchise in the league, joining the ranks of Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, Saskatchewan, and Calgary.

Previously, Ottawa’s Rebel team was part of the NLL from 2001 to 2003, before they ceased operations. The Ottawa franchise then relocated to Edmonton in 2005, and is now operating in Saskatoon.
